Firmware upgrade for EF-E Smart AdapterTM MARK IV / Mark V / CINE / eND and EF-E Speed Booster® ULTRA

The latest firmware is available for the following models:

  • EF-E Smart AdapterTM V / CINE Smart AdapterTM (model number MB_EF-E-BT5 / MB_EF-E-BT6)
  • EF-E Speed Booster® ULTRA II / CINE Speed Booster® ULTRA (model number MB_SPEF-E-BT4 / MB_SPEF-E-BT3)
  • EF-E CINE eND Smart AdapterTM (model number MB_NDEF-E-BM7)

You have a current product if it has a slide switch on the side marked "IBIS/ON", or it is equipped with an OLED display (eND).

 

v75 is the final firmware release for the discontinued EF-E Mark IV (MB_EF-E-BM4 / MB_EF-E-BT4) and EF-E Speed Booster ULTRA Mark I (MB_SPEF-E-BM2 / MB_SPEF-E-BT2)

You may still download the same Metabones App below to upgrade the firmware of your Mark IV or ULTRA Mark I to v75. You have the old product if it does NOT have any slide switch marked IBIS/ON on the side.

 

LEGACY PRODUCTS

Legacy products made in 2014 or before have the old METABONES logo, in all UPPERCASE. They are NOT equipped with USB ports. Firmware update is by factory service only. Please email us to either send in your Smart Adapter or Speed Booster for firmware upgrade to v68, or inquire about our hardware upgrade pricing to the current Mark V.     • Corrected SP designation of some Tamron lenses in EXIF, such as Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VC USD A005.
    • Fixed compatibility issue with LAOWA 180mm f/4.5 1.5X Ultra Macro APO. (Laowa 200mm f/2.0 is not supported.)
    • Improved AF-S autofocus stability.
    • Improved video PDAF and advanced mode AF-C PDAF performance at the corners and the edges of the frame.
    • Support automatic focus-magnify with Canon EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L USM (1989), feature needs to be enabled on camera body.
    • Maximum aperture is now displayed as F4 instead of F4.2 with EF70-200mm f/4L IS II USM at 200mm.

Operating Systems

The latest version of the firmware update is compatible with most commonly-used versions of Microsoft Windows:

  • Windows® 10 1809 or newer (64-bit)
  • Windows® 11
  • Windows® 11 on Arm

A micro-USB cable is required to connect the Smart AdapterTM or Speed Booster® to the computer.

While performing the firmware update, don't disconnect the USB cable, otherwise, the adapter may become inoperable due to sudden disconnection. In most cases, an adapter made inoperable by an interrupted firmware update can be fixed by performing the firmware update again.

Don't connect the adapter to any camara or lens while performing the firmware update.
